Rasmus Dahlin continues to completely dominate in the NHL.
Last night, he decided for Buffalo in extra time – with an absolutely decisive assist.
And many now believe that it was the absolute most delicious pass of the year in the entire NHL.
Rasmus Dahlin, since he was chosen as the first Swedish draft pick since Mats Sundin, has been good for his Buffalo Sabres. However, the team has not been very close to the playoffs, and Dahlin has not reached his full potential in an otherwise weak team. But this year is different.
New success
The Sabers have one of the league’s youngest and most exciting squads, and with that, Rasmus Dahlin has also had a bit of a giant breakthrough. The Swede is fighting at the top of the defenders’ scoring league, and in 43 games played he has accounted for a whopping 50 points. Dahlin is constantly mentioned as a given candidate to win the Norris Trophy this year, and is the favorite behind only the San Jose Sharks’ Erik Karlsson.
Rasmus Dahlin came into tonight’s meeting against the New York Islanders with two straight games without any points scored. But he proved it was more coincidence than anything else. Dahlin was just as good as we’ve come to expect this season, he also played over 25 minutes – and accounted for two plays, one of which was decisive. Dahlin first played teammate Alex Tuch for the 1-1 goal in the game, and in overtime, after the game ended 2-2, he showed what an incredible player he is.

Incredible fit
In the three-on-three game, Dahlin got the puck at the back position, and suddenly he pulled off a lob pass across the court. Not many saw the opportunity even exist, but Dahlin really conjured the puck to teammate Dylan Cozens, who came completely free and once there he made no mistakes. Cozens settled the game, gave the Buffalo Sabers two points – but it was Rasmus Dahlin that everyone was talking about afterwards.
A few years ago, Erik Karlsson made a similar lob pass across the court, which also led to a goal. Many believe that it is one of the NHL’s prettiest assists ever, and this assist by Dahlin will also be in the discussion of at least the prettiest performance of the year. The fact that it also comes from a hill does not make matters worse. This can really be watched any number of times.
