It’s a historic day in Copenhagen’s Christiania as Pusher Street literally began to be dug up on Saturday. The open drug trade must disappear – and with it the criminal gangs, the Christians hope.
– Pusher Street must die, so that Christiania can live, says Copenhagen’s Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, after the first sods, to TT.

Rebuild the street
The police have raided the infamous langargatan many times over the years and demolished hash shops. But each time, the drug trade has quickly re-emerged.
Now the plan is to rebuild the street.
The Danish government has promised to contribute the equivalent of SEK 21 million for the project, on the condition that the municipality of Copenhagen and the Christiania Freedom Foundation also contribute, TT reports.
