Here, Michaela becomes historic – the first woman ever in Beatbox-SM

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Making it sound like there’s both bass and drums on stage, and sometimes vocals, just by using your voice. No easy task, but Michaela Ekström is among the best in the country. And when she took the stage at Folk in Gothenburg last Saturday, she made history.

– It feels great to me to be the first woman to compete in the SM in beatboxing. The goal is to win my first “battle”, she says.

Top 16 in Sweden

Sixteen people had qualified for the final round in Gothenburg this weekend organized by the scratch community, Kut it Up! and Sweden’s Beatbox Community. In beatbox, the contestants meet in pairs where they “battle” against each other. The winner, chosen by three judges, advances to the next round. The loser is eliminated.

Michaela did not reach the goal of winning any “battle” this time, but has to settle for a shared ninth place in Sweden.

– It went perfectly fine, a few mistakes but it was fun, she says and at the same time promises revenge next year.
