Here it is forbidden to play loud music on the beach – can result in a fine of SEK 46,000

Many people associate summer holidays with sun and swimming on the beach, perhaps together with a group of friends. Not infrequently, someone in the gang has a speaker with them to raise the mood even further. But for vacationers in Portugal, such an activity can get really expensive.

Banned from playing too loud music on the beach in Portugal – expensive fines as punishment

The Autoridade Marítima Nacional (ANM), the Portuguese maritime agency, has banned speakers that play music at such a high volume that it disturbs other visitors to the beach, reports the British Evening Standard. ANM has also confirmed that the ban applies in a comment to Portuguese CNN.

Can result in a fine of SEK 46,000

Anyone caught playing loud music can be fined anything between 200 euros to 4,000 euros, i.e. the equivalent of 2,300 to 46,000 Swedish kronor.

It is still unclear exactly what actually determines what noise level would be considered high enough to warrant a fine. Nor does it appear whether the police should be able to confiscate the speakers when visitors refuse to lower the volume, write Evening Standard.
