Not infrequently, the applicants have their Idol dream crushed by the jury with the advice that they should go home, practice and come back.
Someone who did exactly that is Isak Uddström, who three years later gets his revenge.
– It’s probably the sickest thing I’ve been part of, he says to TV4.
Isak Uddström, 19, had his Idol dream crushed in 2020 when he made it to the final stage during the final audition, but his solo song didn’t last all the way into the qualifying week. Three years later, he is back in the final stages of the final audition, hoping to make it all the way this time.
– It feels incredibly important to get revenge. I have imagined this as many times as possible. It feels a little hard to grasp actually. Now I just want to prove that I deserve one of those 20 places, says Isak before he steps on stage.
Singing Melissa Horn’s version of “Parklands”
During the solo song, Isak sings Melissa Horn’s interpretation of “Parklands” – and it goes completely according to plan. Before he is to sing, the jury’s Kishti Tomita notes that Isak has been working hard since they last saw him and that she is really proud of him.
And she becomes prouder after now hearing him sing.
– I am so proud that I just cry, says Kishti and continues:
– The last time you did the solo song, you left the stage and had to pack up and go home, with a scolding. But so amazing, you’ve spent that time well. Because we feel here in the Idol Jury that this time it will be exactly the opposite. You move on to the next part, straight into the live qualifier.
Anders Bagge notes that he could envision Isak appearing in So much better and singing his own songs.
– I don’t think I’ve taken this in at all, it’s just completely insane. It couldn’t have been better! says Isaac.
“Probably the sickest thing I’ve ever been through”
And even today, months after the final audition was recorded, he has a hard time grasping what happened.
– I still don’t think I really grasped how good it actually turned out. For so long I had seen in front of me how I wanted it to go, and then it happened exactly as I had dreamed of. I remember that I felt such sick relief and kind of gratitude, it’s probably the sickest thing I’ve been through, says Isak to TV4.
– Getting such nice words from the jury is still kind of hard to grasp, he continues.
