During the summer Olympics in Paris charmed Truls Möregårdh into the hearts of all Swedes and created incredible ping-pong fever throughout the country. First, he lined up feats in singles play and reached all the way to a sensational Olympic final.

Then the 22-year-old followed up the great success by also reaching the Olympic final in the team game together with Christian Karlsson and Anton Källberg. Both times it was Olympic silver as China proved to be too powerful around the table.

But Truls must be extremely proud of his Olympic performance and returned home to Sweden again with double silver medals around his neck. Back home in Eslöv, he was highly praised by the hometown.

The legend Jan-Ove Waldner is a sacred icon in China and has been nicknamed “The Evergreen Tree” for his many ping pong successes. Now even Truls Möregårdh has been given a nickname by the Chinese.

The local newspaper GP reports that he is called “Xiao Mo” throughout China, which in Swedish means “young, energetic and cute”.
