Scooter, a Chinese naked dog, has been crowned the world’s ugliest in Petaloma in the US state of California.
– Every dog is beautiful, even if it is not the most beautiful dog in the world, says Scooter’s owner Linda Elmquis.
The annual competition recognizes dogs that have been tested hard in life, and seven-year-old Scooter is a clear example.
Scooter was born with deformed hind legs and the breeder intended to euthanize him, but fate wanted otherwise. Today, scooters can get around, sometimes with support wheels.
– Every dog is beautiful, even if it is not the most beautiful dog in the world. If you’re going to take something away from this competition, it’s that every dog is wonderful, says Scooter’s owner Linda Elmquis.
The competition is organized to get more people to adopt and to show off and celebrate the dogs’ shortcomings.
– I think it was his way of sticking forward on his front legs and all that shaking and stuff. Scooter was fantastic and deserved to win, says spectator Kristina Borbra.
The price sum is 1,500 dollars, corresponding to approximately 16,000 kroner.
