Sleeping can be quite challenging at times. There are many different sleep problems. Every adult needs at least 7 hours of sleep to stay healthy. Unfortunately, many people do not get quality sleep for hours. This increases the risk of disease. According to studies, getting a good night’s sleep can lower the odds of heart attack and stroke by 7, down from 10. Sleep problems kill 100,000 Brits a year, so the recommended seven to eight hours of sleep a night could save tens of thousands of lives.
SLEEPERS HAVE A 75 PERCENT LOWER RISK OF HEART ARISES
Researchers followed 7,203 healthy people over the age of 50 for ten years. It gave a score of zero to five for sleep duration and quality. Most took three or four. Only one in ten had the highest grades. The risk of heart attack and stroke was 75 percent lower for those who rested the best than those who had the worst. The results have led scientists to call for better sleep training.
GOOD SLEEP RELAXES BLOOD VESSELS
Prof James Leiper from the British Heart Foundation said: “A good night’s sleep allows your body to rest, which relaxes your blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.” He explained that poor sleep can increase the risk of heart disease or stroke, increasing inflammation and affecting the area of the brain that controls stress hormone levels.
