What quickly becomes clear when looking at the list is that Japan is the world leader in building trouble-free cars.
Namely, the first six places on the list of the most reliable car brands come from Japan, with Subaru at the top followed by sister brands Lexus and Toyota.
First in seventh and eighth place we find the German brands Audi and BMW, followed by the South Korean sister brands Kia and Hyundai.
American brands, on the other hand, fare worse, and account for the four places at the bottom of the list. The electric car brand Rivian gets the lowest score, followed by General Motors brands Cadillac and GMC.

To create the list, they look at 20 different categories of problems. It can be anything from small problems such as squealing brakes, to more serious and expensive faults in, for example, the engine or gearbox.
The different categories of problems are weighted according to their severity, and based on this, each car brand receives a final score. A car brand with a higher score is more reliable, and vice versa.
