The problem of trees at risk of falling over minor roads is unusually large due to a snowy winter in parts of northern Sweden. The trees damaged by the weight of the snow bend, hang over the roads and fall.
– On certain stretches, we have to drive slalom between the trees, says Roger Jonsson, project manager of the Swedish Transport Administration.
Now the authority is testing a new method to be able to clear dangerous trees along the roads more quickly. It is a converted brush cutter, equipped with three saw blades, that will do the job.
There are many miles of road that must be cleared. But it is necessary, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.
– Then there’s the fact that one, two, three they go off and you don’t get any warning. It can come straight down on the car when you drive, says Roger Jonsson.
