Here is the ideal drink in autumn according to our

It’s raining, it’s cold and dark… That’s it, autumn is well established, which can reinforce the gloom and seasonal depression. Our expert in Ayurvedic medicine gives us THE ideal drink to reboost your mind.

As an alternative to coffee or teatwo hot drinks which tend to increase the level of nervousness, dry out the body and disrupt the digestive system, our naturopath and Ayurveda expert, Sophie Benabi, gives us the recipe for its ideal and comforting drink to preserve your mind in autumn : a hot infusion with chamomile, spices and rose.

Ingredients to make the drink:

  • 1 bag of tea chamomile (or 1 tablespoon of dried chamomile flowers)
  • 1 tablespoon of petals pink dried (preferably organic)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom in powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon in powder
  • 1 pinch of saffron (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon of Honey or Maple syrup (according to your taste)
  • 2 cups of water

Chamomile, rose and saffron allowsoothe the nervous systemreduce stress and anxiety and allow more restful sleep in autumn. While cardamom and cinnamon are two spices excellent for digestion, called “carminatives” which will help support digestion, reduce bloating, gas and burping and which help balance the Vata dosha, a vital energy which tends to become unbalanced in autumn“, describes Sophie Benabi.

How to prepare your drink:

  1. In a saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
  2. Add chamomile tea, rose petals, cardamom, cinnamon
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Turn off the heat, add the saffron (if desired) and leave to infuse for another 5 minutes, covered.
  5. Strain the drink into a cup.
  6. Add the honey and stir well.
  7. Serve warm to hot.

In Ayurveda, the Honey is what we call “Yogavahi” which comes from the combination of two Sanskrit words: “Yoga” which means “combination” or “union” and “Vahi” which means “(trans)carrier”. He is therefore capable ofamplify the effects of other ingredients with which it is associated or mixed. This means that it facilitates absorption of components into tissues and channels of the bodythus reinforcing the overall action of the remedy or formulation.
