On the occasion of Walt Disney’s 100th anniversary, the Ifop/Flash survey institute, carried out for “Voyage avec Nous”, questioned the French on the evolution of cartoons (more inclusive). The survey also reveals what their favorite works are. Who is on the top step of the podium? Discover the top 10.
Nearly two in three French people (63%) say they have seen a Disney production (excluding Marvel and Star Wars) in the last three years. A proportion which rises to 85% for 18-34 year olds compared to 30% for those over 65. This score is highest in homes where there are young children: 53% of 25-34 year olds say they watch Disney at least once a month. For the 100th anniversary of the American firm, the Ifop/Flash survey institute for “Voyage avec Nous” questioned the French on the many developments of Disney, in particular on the diversity of representations.
A rather conservative France
If the influence of Disney films on the degree of tolerance appears positive (63% of them believe that watching them has encouraged them to be more tolerant); 62% of French people say they are against modifications made to the great classics of entertainment works to adapt them to current societal values. For example, 71% of those surveyed think it’s a bad idea for Snow White not to be saved by the prince. Another sensitive point, 53% of viewers are not in favor of LGBTQIA characters in Disney.
It is in the 25-35 age group that openness to diversity is most notable: 34% of 18-24 year olds are opposed to the fact that a Disney heroine is a lesbian compared to 67% among over 65 years old. As for ethnic representations, 67% of 18-24 year olds say that this is an important step compared to 36% of 50-64 year olds and only 25% of those over 65.

Among the 26 animated feature films submitted to their choice, respondents to this survey very clearly placed The Lion King at the top of their preferences.
