Finland’s team at the World Championships in Athletics in Budapest grew by 22 athletes, when the International Association of Athletics Federations (WA) published its final ranking regarding the selection of athletes for the World Championships on Wednesday, report Finnish Sports Federation.
Ten athletes who had reached the direct result limit required for the Games had already been named to the Finnish team: javelin thrower Oliver Helandera 100-meter hurdler Reetta Hurskea pot thrower Silja Kosonena 400-meter hurdler Viivi Lehikoinena pole vaulter Wilma Murtoa triple jumper Kristiina Mäkelämarathon runners Alisa Vainio and Nina Chydenius and 35 kilometer walkers Aleksi Ojala and Brother-Matti “Aku” Partanen.
Now the total number of the Finnish team is 32 athletes.
– It is possible and likely that the team will be supplemented when WA receives information from the federations of different countries by August 5 about athletes who, for one reason or another, will not accept a place in the World Cup, says the general manager and World Cup team leader of the Sports Confederation Jani Tanskanen.

Murto, Vanninen and Helander are Finland’s statistical leaders
In the light of the summer’s world statistics, the team’s top names are Wilma Murto, ranked third, fourth and fifth, seventh Saga Vanninen and Oliver Helander.
The Finnish team also includes all the medalists of last summer’s European Championships in Munich: Murto, Mäkelä, hurdler Top Raitanen and Etelätalo.
