Here is Sweden’s most equal municipality: “We are very happy!”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

According to the insurance company Länsförsäkringar’s so-called gender equality index for 2022, Sorsele in Västerbotten County is Sweden’s most equal municipality. The index measures how mothers and fathers share VAB and parental leave, the difference between women’s and men’s salary and pension, and how big the difference is in the number of sick days between the sexes.

– We are of course very happy about this appointment! says Pia Sjöberg (S), deputy chairman of the municipal board for Sorsele municipality.

A small municipality with a big heart

Sorsele is a small municipality with a big heart, they write on their website. With approximately 2,400 inhabitants, Sorsele is Sweden’s third least populated municipality, but has an area as large as Blekinge.

– We have a high number of female entrepreneurs and business leaders, and we are obviously very proud of that, so it can be a contributing factor to the appointment. We have identified gender equality as an area in our master plan where we want to see that men and women have the same opportunity for education and economic independence, says Pia Sjöberg.

And so to the question of who gets the prize of shame: which municipality is the least equal in the country?

The anti-prize goes to Vellinge municipality in Skåne – which, however, did not have the opportunity to participate in Nyhetsmorgon’s interview.
