The non-profit organization Green Mobilists has been named Sweden’s “Environmentally Best Car” ever since 1994.
Since the beginning, the aim has been to draw attention to and promote environmentally friendly cars and sustainable car ownership, by pointing out the most environmentally friendly car on the Swedish market.
This year the rules are stricter than before, but this seems to have had a limited impact on the results. The winner is the same car that has also won the previous two years.

New, stricter criteria
This year’s big news is that a weight limit of 1,850 kilos has been set for the competing car models, which reflects the requirements for life cycle analysis advocated by Green Mobilists for several years.
The criteria that the cars are judged on include energy efficiency, life cycle impact, carbon dioxide emissions, potential for recycling and use of renewable materials.
It would have been easy to believe that only electric cars would qualify among the most environmentally friendly cars in 2024, but this is not the case. The selection also included plug-in hybrids, biogas cars and fuel-efficient petrol and diesel cars.

When the independent jury finished its work, it was clear that the Tesla Model 3 takes home the first place as the year’s Best Environmentally Friendly Car. It is the third year in a row that the model has been named the most environmentally friendly car in Sweden.
The jury likes that the car is of a reasonable size, is safe and has a long range, while the energy efficiency is high and the car can be charged quickly. One also appreciates the reasonable price range, that there are plenty of used examples on the market, and how the car has continuously improved over the years.
In second place we find the new Renault Scenic E-Tech, which is praised for its smart design, long range and spacious interior.
