Now Pia Sundhage has got a new job.
The 63-year-old takes over Switzerland’s women’s soccer team.
Pia Sundhages the desire for the message from Brazil’s football federation was clear:
She wanted to rest – and then find a new job.
The trainer got exactly what she wanted. After being fired in October, Sundhage – who has two Olympic gold medals with the USA and an Olympic silver medal with Sweden as his main achievements – is ready as the national team captain for Switzerland.

The contract extends to 2025, which includes the home European Championship.
“I am delighted to take over a group of talented players who have great potential. This year is the start of a time that will culminate in the European Championship 2025 in our own country. My goal is to prepare the team optimally for this highlight,” she says to the association’s website.
“A home EC is a unique experience. The excitement, hope and expectations increase. It is a privilege to coach a team under this pressure. I love it.”
Switzerland are also very happy with the new coaching recruitment.
“The signing of Pia Sundhage is another milestone in Swiss women’s football. She immediately became enthusiastic about our project to further develop the women’s national team and prepare our players for the European Championship 2025 in Switzerland,” says the chairman Dominique Blanc to the association’s website.
At Sundhage’s side, as an assistant, comes Lily Persson to exist – just as it was over the years in Brazil.
