In your opinion, what is the least relaxing city in France? This is the question that the company Preply asked itself. Based on comments posted by Internet users, the language learning application has established a ranking of the 28 cities in France perceived as the most stressful.

When we talk about cities in France where stress reigns, the capital often comes up spontaneously in conversations. Traffic jams, hurried passers-by, grayness… The City of Lights, praised in many ways, is however far from making everyone dream when it comes to living there! But if we are to believe a recent ranking According to a study by Ukrainian language learning app Preply, Paris is not perceived as the most stressful city in France.

Against all expectations, the city considered the most oppressive by Internet users is… Nice! The city gets a stress score of 93.2 out of 100. A surprising result, when you know that this city located near the Italian border and with its colorful alleys is often associated with the dolce vita of the Côte d’Azur in people’s minds. Its large population (nearly 350,000 inhabitants, making it the 5th most populated city in France) and its high cost of living (the capital of the Côte d’Azur is in fact one of the most expensive cities in France), mean that it is propelled to the status of dunce.

In second place, we find Dijon, with a score of 84.4 out of 100. The capital of the Dukes of Burgundy obtains this poor score because of its strong real estate pressure, making access to housing difficult and expensive for many residents.Additionally, the lack of an international airport forces residents to travel to another major city, increasing the cost and stress of travel.”, analyze the authors of the ranking.

As for Paris, it climbs to third place on the podium, with a score of 76.6. Its “extremely high” population density, its metro system “often subject to strikes”, and the influx of tourists during the summer period are all factors contributing to “the very high level of stress that exists in Paris”, according to the authors of the survey.

Marseille and Clermont-Ferrand follow suit. The Phocaean city gets a poor score (75.5) because of its crime rate (one of the highest in Europe), while the capital of Auvergne (69.9) suffers from its “limited employment opportunities in certain sectors”.

Conversely, the cities in France considered the most relaxing are (in order) Le Havre, Le Mans, Toulouse, Annecy and Reims.

Ranking carried out by Preply based on the 28 city names in the posts and comments, i.e. an average of 2,000 comments per city.
