Unarmed Black Man Attacked By Police Dog — Despite Surrendering With Both Hands In The Air, Reports CNN.
The brutal attack has received a lot of attention in the United States as the sequence of events was filmed by the police’s body camera.
– Don’t let the dog go when he has his hands up, a policeman is heard to say.
It was on July 4 that a civil police officer tried to stop a truck in Ohio, USA. However, the car’s 23-year-old driver, Jadarrius Rose, refused to stop and a police chase began.
Once the car has stopped, the policeman urges his colleague not to bus his dog on Rose, but nothing is heard.
The dog flies at the 23-year-old and bites him on the head and neck.
“Barbaric behavior”
The case has reignited the debate about racism within the American police force. The civil rights movement National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, NAACP, has condemned the police intervention in a statement.
– This type of barbaric behavior brought back horrific memories and images of the unleashing of dogs on civil rights activists that occurred in the South in the 1960s, Nana Watson, spokesperson, NAACP.
According to the police report, Rose was taken to a hospital before being taken to the police station.
– We hope that an in-depth investigation is carried out, that justice is done and that disciplinary measures are taken against the police officers involved, says Nana Watson.
