In total, 42.7 percent of heavy trailers have serious errors that require post -control.

Among these, 1.5 per cent were considered to pose a road safety danger with the risk of accident and was banned by a driving ban.

This is what the car testing writes in a press release.

Continued high proportion – but on the road of improvement

Of the 22,000 heavy trailers that roll on Swedish roads that the car testing inspects each year, more than every two (53.8 percent) had shortcomings.

A heavy trailer is counted as a trailer with a total weight of over 3.5 tonnes.

Compared to other types of vehicle, it is considered a high proportion.

A county stands out

Västmanland had a high proportion with deficiencies – 72.8 Penter to be exact.

The lowest proportion had Västra Götaland with 37.5 percent.

The law states that the deficiencies must be addressed as soon as possible – when the ET is done, the vehicle may be used as usual.

Going in the right direction

Although 53.8 percent is a high proportion, the development points in the right direction according to car testing.

For the fourth year in a row, the proportion of heavy trailers falls with deficiencies, from 61.2 percent in 2020 to 53.8 percent in 2024.

-That the deficiencies among the heavy trailers have dropped by 7.4 percentage points in recent years feels positive, although the proportion is still far too high, says Per-Anders Blommersfors, who is the inspection manager at the car test.

An imminent majority of the deficiencies are found in the braking system (58 percent) and then the wheel system (26 percent).

A matter of road safety

1.5 percent, corresponding to 325 heavy trailers, was banned.

The highest proportion had Norrbotten County with 4.3 percent with Blekinge had the lowest by 0.3 percent.

Vehicles that are covered with a driving ban must be salvaged from the stations.

– Most of the heavy trailers that were charged with a driving ban had insufficient braking ability. It is nasty that these vehicles may have driven in traffic but good that the error is detected in connection with the inspection and remedy. It is a real argument for why regular checks are needed. Maybe even should be done at more denser intervals, concludes Per-Anders Blämsfors.

At present, a heavy trailer is being inspected for the first time within a year after it was put into operation and then no later than 12 months after the previous inspection
