Gabriel Landeskog has finally won the Stanley Cup.
And now he is hugely hailed.
Not least for a completely senseless situation – where he almost had to be carried by the ice with only a minute left of the match.
Gabriel Landeskog became team captain for the Colorado Avalanche when he was only 19 years old. He has since been loyal to the team and when you talk about the NHL’s best team captains, the Swede is always mentioned in the discussion.
Big tribute
It is not enough that Landeskog is a scorer of rank; few forwards in the league are as good defensively, and few take as much responsibility on the ice as Gabbe. He has also played in Colorado through a really tough period, where the team just a few years ago was the worst in the entire league.
But last night, the Swede finally got to lift the Stanley Cup dent, after winning the sixth final on away ice against Tampa Bay Lightning. Landeskog was noted for an assist in the match, which ended 2-1, but he contributed all the more in other ways. With only a minute left of the game, Tampa Bay was really on for an equalizer, and they got a dangerous shot from goal.
Incredible pictures
However, Gabriel Landeskog made a spectacular save. At the same time as the puck hit the rail, it went off, and Landeskog could not get off the ice, but to get a new player to help defend the goal, he crawled off the ice, and with the help of teammates he was able to leave the ice. It is a perfect example of what a team player Landeskog is, and what a leader he is on the ice.
And the pictures of Landeskog are now being hailed in North America.
“This made me cry,” writes one supporter.
“The desire to win is completely unbeatable,” writes one user.
“It is typically Landeskog. A true leader, in an important moment “, writes another.
“My favorite moment in the entire playoffs,” writes a third.
