Here, Belgian customs wash 2,352 cans of beer

According to the advertisement, the beer in question was “The Champagne of beers”. But calling a beer champagne is against European regulations because champagne is protected by origin.

This means that champagne must be produced precisely in the Champagne area and according to certain rules. The champagne industry’s trade body, the Comité Champagne, reported this to customs who simply had to pour out the contents of the cans.

However, the washing was done with “the greatest possible environmental consideration and the cans were recycled in a responsible manner”, according to customs.

In the clip, you can see when the “champagne beer” is confiscated.
