What’s on the agenda this summer? If you’re going on vacation with your partner (or family), you’ll want to consider these expert tips to make your stay a success.
The time for the long-awaited vacation has arrived. You have planned everything to make it go well: sunscreen, swimsuit and your good mood! However, you still have a few small details to plan to make the atmosphere perfect. The Coopleo.care platform and its vast network of marriage counselors, sexologists and couples therapists, have conducted their investigation to give you their best advice for a successful vacation. Here are the top 3 things you need to do to have a peaceful summer with your family!
Determine with your spouse your expectations for this vacation
Among the platform’s experts, 74% recommend this point! For Carole Laurençon, marriage and family counselor, the first step is to “check with your family what you want to do or not do during your vacation”. To do this, you must absolutely include both your personal needs and those of others. Do you want a rather sporty vacation? A relaxing one? To meet people? To take time for yourself above all? It is essential to ask yourself the question and to let your partner know what you want. “Likewise, it is important to know the feelings of each member of the family in order to take their expectations into account as much as possible.”adds Céline Benk, also a marriage counselor. During the holidays, regularly find out how their desires are changing, and make sure you are moving closer to the desired goals, without pressure!
Put away phones and screens
This point concerns 60% of the recommendations according to the platform’s therapists. It consists of distancing yourself as much as possible from screens, because as marriage counselor Alice Quantin says, “The worst enemy of a couple is screens!”. Holidays are a time for sharing, with less stress, an opportunity for couples to get together, create new memories and reconnect their emotions with each other. For couples therapist Émeline Loader: “It is in these unique moments that spouses can confide deeply about their fears, their joys, their fears, their desires come to recreate profound moments, to savor in the emotional bond”. In order not to deprive yourself of these special moments, it is in your best interest to forget your phone for a few days.
Take time for your relationship
Finally, 55% of Coopleo.care psychologists and therapists recommend taking time for your romantic relationship. Without the phone and after having set your needs and objectives, you have everything in hand to enjoy your vacation together. Thus, for Niclette N’Golo “A couple is like a fireplace, you have to keep it maintained otherwise the flame goes out”. “Keep in mind that a successful vacation can greatly strengthen the bond between you and your partner.” explains therapist Evelyne Dillensinger. Having a good time is ideal for maintaining open communication and more complicity when returning to everyday life and afterwards. It is also a way of giving importance to these kinds of moments and therefore to your relationship.
