During the night of Tuesday, the Emmys were held, the gala that is described as the television world’s answer to the Oscars. The best achievements in television were to be honored and praised, but this time a couple of months late due to the earlier strike. The gala would have taken place in September.
During the morning, film expert Wanda Bendjelloul explained how the delay affected the gala.
– There was a bit of a cupboard food feeling this year, because the gala was supposed to be in September, but because of the strike it was then moved to January. So it was the first season of “The Bear” that was nominated, even though we have all seen the second season, a bit strange, says Wanda in Nyhetsmorgon.
“The Bear” was the gala’s big winner with its six statuettes, she states.
“Like the character came in and kissed his co-star”
With awards also come acceptance speeches, and it was during one of these that one of the gala’s big talking points happened. Wanda shows a clip when “The Bear” gang took the stage and Matty Matheson gives a speech of thanks, but is interrupted by Ebon Moss-Bachrach who kisses him long on the mouth.
– It went on for so long! It was so nice, it was so nice! He plays this character and it was like the character came in and kissed his co-star, says Wanda.
– The person who gave the speech is then a chef in reality. It is a series about a restaurant in Chicago that has been highly praised, she continues.
But “The Bear” was not alone in collecting six statuettes. “Succession” also took home the win in six categories. Where, among other things, the award for supporting actor went to Matthew Macfadyen for his performance in “Succession”, and Alexander Skarsgård was left in the category without a statuette for his role in the same TV drama – just as it was during the Golden Globe gala for just a couple days ago.
– There it was Alexander Skarsgård who was nominated again, and then it was like a repeat at the Golden Globe where it was Matthew Macfadyen who won it again, says Wanda.
