At an event in Apple’s headquarters in Silicon Valley, the new iPhone 16 was presented on Monday. Compared to its predecessors, the new model has a number of more features, such as a tool to make your own emojis and a more powerful version of the voice-controlled assistant Siri. But one of the things stood out extra.
– The big news here is that we have received a new button. It’s not that often we get to see updates in the hardware on these mobile phones anymore, says Evelina Galli, technology expert.
First model to handle AI
The new button is called “camera control” and should be able to be activated both by pressing, swiping and other gestures. The button should above all be used as a complement to the mobile’s camera and help zoom, set focus and activate the new AI functions. And the mobile’s use of AI in particular is something on which great focus has been placed.
– For example, you should be able to ask, what am I seeing in the camera right now? What is the name of this bike model? Or, can you explain this math problem to me?
The iPhone 16 is the first of its editions that is built to cope with Apple’s AI, the so-called Apple Intelligence that has been heavily marketed. But the feature is similar to the AI already available on other companies’ mobiles.
– After all, it is built to be able to cope with slightly more difficult functions, even if everything cannot be done locally on the mobile phone, but then you have to use external servers.
Must wait for features
The new iPhone model will be released in the US on September 20, but when it will be available in Sweden is not yet known. Despite this, as a buyer, you may have to wait even longer until all the functions of the mobile phone are available.
– These Apple Intelligence functions will first come to beta users, i.e. developers and so on, this autumn. But we ordinary mortals have to wait a little while and that’s boring, of course, says Evelina Galli.
She herself is curious about the new model, but is not entirely sure whether she should give the iPhone 16 a chance.
– I’m always keen on new gadgets, but I would still say that if you have a working mobile phone then you don’t have to feel like you have to update.
In addition to the new phone, Apple is also launching new wireless headphones, Airpods 4, as well as a new watch model, Apple Watch 10.
