Here are the invented details of the acclaimed Borje series

November 24, 2022 passed Börje Salming away after a period of illness.

The hockey icon had told a few months earlier that he had suffered from ALS, and during Salming’s last days in life, he was highly praised in both Sweden and Canada, where he played for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 70s and 80s. Before that, he played in Brynäs IF.

And it is precisely these parts of the career that are depicted in the Viaplay series “Börje – the journey of a legend”, which premiered on November 19.

All about Börje Salming: Children, wife Pia Salming and the ALS disease

More than the Swedes wore helmets

But of course there are certain details in the series, there Walter Skarsgård and Hedda Stiernstedt shoulders the main roles, which do not quite correspond to reality.

In Gefle Dagblad they have, with the help of Börje Salming’s former teammate Inge Hammarströmhighlight some stuff that is “made up” in the last four episodes of “Börje – the journey of a legend”.

One of the parts that is not entirely true is that the Swedes would be the only ones in the Toronto Maple Leafs and the NHL who wore helmets. According to Hammarström, there were roughly 5-10 players in each team who wore helmets.

That’s what Börje Salming said about Valter Skarsgård – after their first meeting

Another detail that is not as it was in reality is the scene when Inge Hammarström receives a three-pointer in front of the entire Toronto Maple Leafs in the team’s locker room.

According to Hammarström, it was never going to happen like that and he was instead summoned to the boss Jim Gregory’s office.

– He was an incredibly nice person and a good guy with whom I have had good contact after my career as well, says Hammarström to Gefle Daily and continues:

– He was against the three and it was one of his most difficult decisions to agree to it because he thought it was a disaster.

The team itself learned the news during their next gathering.

This is how Börje Salming’s first wife Margitta Wendin lives today
