Christmas is around the corner and while opinions differ on when it should happen, the Christmas tree will go in sooner or later. Anyone who runs on the real thing can count on getting an unexpected Christmas visit.

A whole bunch of insects are hiding in the tree.

Here you can read about how to send a letter to Santa and actually get a reply.

Several insects accompany you into your Christmas tree

For News24 tells Didrik Vanhoenackeron-call biologist at the National Museum of Natural History, more about the insects that slink in when you bring in the tree.

– If you want to have a chance to see some beautiful or exciting little insects, take the opportunity just when the tree is taken. Shake the tree or tap it a little with a stick. Then you may have the chance to see some springtails, barnacles, mites, tiny spiders and maybe some butterfly caterpillars.

If you are lucky, you can, according to Vanhoenacker, find 5-10 pieces – and they are completely harmless.

– The animals that bring the tree in are not dangerous, they will not bite or eat at your house or in your pantry. They are best outdoors. Indoors it is too hot and dry and the creep usually dies within a few hours or a day. So feel free to help them out to a fir tree in the forest.
