There are flu times in Sweden.
The spread of infection is described as “quite strong” by the Public Health Authority’s assistant state epidemiologist Erik Sturegård.
– Unfortunately, we will probably see an increase among intensive -care cases and even among deaths in the future, he tells TV4 News.
The spread of RS virus is also increasing, but it is at a relatively low level compared to previous years, which is believed to be due to the spread of infection being started unusually late this time.
The flu, on the other hand, is at a medium level compared to the same time in previous years, and more admitted patients and more deaths are likely to wait.
– You get sick first and then you become seriously ill later in the process, which means that we are likely to see both a continued increase among cases but also an increase in serious cases, says the Public Health Authority’s assistant state epidemiologist Erik Sturegård to TV4 News.
Covid-19 at unexpectedly low level
Regarding the winter sickness, there is a continued spread.
– Last season we saw a top somewhere around week eight. Earlier this season we followed last year quite well, but we have seen a slowdown in recent weeks. Where we have been at a fairly stable level. But if that means it will start to sink or if it is a temporary hack and it will continue to increase again after this is very difficult to say at the moment, says Erik Sturegård.
Furthermore, the number of Covid-19 cases is at an unexpectedly low level.
– We have not really seen any regular winter smear spread at all throughout the fall, says the assistant state epidemiologist.
Council: Think about who you meet
Erik Sturegård stresses that the flu is a serious illness especially for older people with other underlying diseases.
Just as with the winter sickness, it is important to have good hand hygiene and to think through an extra time which you meet.
– Although I myself do not risk being so seriously ill, my older relatives or friends and acquaintances who have any underlying illness or workmates or the like can become very serious.
