FACT: THE PRICE BASE AMOUNT RULES

The price base amounts are calculated based on the consumer price index (inflation). It is used to control amounts and levels in, among other things, the social insurance system and the tax system.

For 2023, the price base amount will be SEK 52,500.

The price base amounts in 2023 are governed by the price development between June 2021 and June 2022.

Statistics Norway calculates the price base amounts. The government determines the price base amount.

The price base amount governs a number of different reimbursements from the general government. This year it has been increased by SEK 4,200, from SEK 48,300 to SEK 52,500. It’s a record-breaking increase that gives some groups fairly large increases.

More money in your wallet – your pension will be affected by the new tax rules

Guarantee pensioners

Guarantee pensioners, who are the worst off, will have their pension increased by 8.7 percent, as it is added up to inflation. The general pension increases by “only” 3 percent.

The increase in the guaranteed pension will be approximately SEK 850 per month at the most.

“The weakest get more, it’s at least somewhat fair,” says Shoka Åhrman, savings economist at SPP.

Students

The increased price base amount also affects the study funds from the Central study support board, CSN. It will be a fairly decent increase, SEK 1,000 for four weeks of study. Students who take full tuition fees now receive SEK 12,000 for the four weeks.

Students also get to earn more money before the student aid starts to be limited. The so-called free amount for work income for 20 weeks of full-time studies is increased from SEK 93,561 to SEK 101,697.

Parental leave

Parental insurance also depends on the price base amount, the ceiling is raised with inflation, and the highest compensation is raised by SEK 89 per day. Now the highest compensation will be SEK 1,116 per day.

The raised ceiling can have quite a big effect, for those who withdraw everything and hit the ceiling, there will be SEK 2,700 more in the wallet per month before tax.

Sick leave

The same ceiling is raised for those who receive compensation from health insurance, and the effect will also be the same.

The guaranteed compensation in sickness compensation is increased by SEK 973 per month to SEK 12,163 per month.

Care allowance

Those who receive care allowance for care of children with disabilities will receive SEK 874 more per month, the new compensation will be SEK 10,938 per month.

Families with children

The temporary supplementary allowance for families with children with housing allowance is extended. The additional allowance can be a maximum of SEK 1,325 per month.

Unemployed

The strengthening of the social security fund that was introduced in connection with the pandemic is maintained. The compensation will be a maximum of SEK 1,200 per day for the first 100 days, but a maximum of SEK 1,000 per day after 100 days.

Electricity customers in the south

Much is still unclear, but the government has promised electricity support to electricity customers in electricity areas 3 and 4, which will be taken from the so-called bottleneck fees. However, the electricity customers in northern Sweden will be without.

The support is promised until February, if nothing unforeseen happens.

The size of the compensation depends on the electricity price range and the historical electricity consumption between October 2021 and September 2022.

For electricity price range 3 it will be 50 öre/kWh consumed and for electricity price range 4 the support will be 79 öre/kWh consumed. A villa in Skåne with a consumption of 20,000 kWh receives SEK 15,800, in Stockholm the support is SEK 10,000.
