Here are the classic teams chasing Erik Karlsson this winter – they are said to be in talks

Erik Karlsson may leave the San Jose Sharks.
Now a club is said to be interested.
And it’s not just any.
– I just don’t know if it’s possible, says respected journalist Elliotte Friedman.

When Erik Karlsson played for the Ottawa Senators, he was one of the absolute best defenders in the world. The Norris Trophy nominations replaced each other, and that too in a team that, on paper, should not have had the chance to challenge in the playoffs and high up in the division. But Karlsson carried his team, and really performed great deeds.

Rumored to Ottawa

It was also why the San Jose Sharks made him one of the league’s highest paid players. But since the move, the Sharks have had a hard time, and Erik Karlsson has also had a hard time getting up to his normal level. But Karlsson has made a brilliant start to this year’s season and tops the scorers’ score. At the same time, the Sharks are said to be eager to go into a rebuild, and thus trade away their older stars for younger talents.

The Sharks’ general manager has opened up about sending Karlsson away if a club comes with the right offer, and is prepared to take over his fat contract, and now comes information about a club that is interested. According to NHL guru Elliotte Friedman, there have been talks between the Sharks and Karlsson’s former club, the Ottawa Senators. But there are questions about whether it would work out.

– Even if San Jose eats 50 percent of Erik Karlsson’s salary, I don’t know if it is possible to achieve that, he says, referring to the fact that the Senators should not be willing to let go of any of their young top players, he says.

“It does not add up”

Erik Karlsson is an icon in Ottawa, and the news of a possible return has been loved by… everyone. Ottawa also has problems with its back end, but to make a trade it is necessary to trade away one of its younger stars.

– If they are going to keep all their younger players, the math doesn’t work. It doesn’t add up, says Friedman.

However, he does not rule out that a solution is reached, especially since the Sharks should really be eager to get rid of part of Karlsson’s heavy contract.

– I’m not saying it won’t happen, I’m saying it feels unlikely.
