Flying is considered one of the safest modes of transportation you can choose.
In 2018, the Aviation Safety Network calculated that the risk of being involved in a serious plane crash is about one in 2.5 million. According to a 2017 study by Harvard University, the probability of dying in a plane crash is one in 11 million.
Aviation technology has also improved significantly over the years – the fact that an airline was involved in a fatal crash many years ago does not necessarily mean that it is more unsafe than other airlines today.

“All airlines have incidents every day”
According to figures from The Telegraphtaken from AirlineRating’s surveys, there were a total of 49 major airlines that had never experienced a fatal accident in 2023.
“But all airlines have incidents every day, and many are aircraft or engine manufacturing problems, not airline operational problems. It’s how the flight crew handle these incidents that separates a good airline from an unsafe one,” explains Geoffrey Thomaseditor-in-chief at AirlineRatings.
The safest airline – they take first place
Of the airlines that have never had a fatal crash, these are classified as the eight safest based on a number of different criteria security-related parameters.

In addition to this top eight, there are another 41 airlines that have never been involved in a fatal crash, but do not rank as high on the overall safety scale for other reasons.
