But now the football legend has had his big revenge.
By covering the mouth of a really good Blågult supporter.
It is the championship that has become synonymous with Anders Svensson. The Swedish national team player got his big international breakthrough during his championship debut in the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
Svensson’s gem
First, he offered one of Swedish national team football’s most iconic free kicks against the great nation Argentina in the group stage. From long range, the midfield genius screwed the ball in and sent the entire Swedish people into full ecstasy.

The free kick gem helped Sweden win the “Group of Death” in 2002 ahead of recognized skilled nations such as Argentina, England and Nigeria. It then gave Blågult a dream draw in the WC finals when little Senegal awaited in the round of 16.

“Be worthless”
Once again, Svensson would get the main role, but this time a negative one as he missed a dream opportunity to push Sweden forward. First a delicious twirl and then bang – straight into the post.

Sweden lost the match 2-1 after extra time and were sent out of the 2002 World Cup. The memory still haunts him today, two decades later, and torments him daily.
