– We believe that it is not sensible for all taxis to be emission-free from the first of November. In the worst case, there will be a taxi crisis this winter because there is nothing with charging capacity, says Anne Karlsen Hove, chairman of the Norwegian Taxi Association.

Instead, they wanted to postpone the requirement until 2027. It has gone so far that some taxi drivers have filed a lawsuit against Oslo municipality as they believe that the municipality has not fulfilled its obligations before the requirement comes into force.

Exceptions apply to taxi journeys that go outside the municipality’s borders.

– This environmental requirement was notified four years ago. It is right and important that it now comes into force, says Per Maltun, chairman of the Oslo and Akershus electric car association.

– There are many taxis in Oslo. Fully electrifying the taxi fleet contributes to a better urban environment and means that Oslo reduces its greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector, he says.
