Ali Kamrani has been the victim of six attempted robberies in five years – including one where things were going really badly. In the last robbery attempt, he was beaten and his brother stabbed.
– I see no other way out than to defend myself, he says to TV4 Nyheterna.
On an ordinary Friday, Ali Kamrani works in his store in Borås. Suddenly two masked men enter the shop, at the same time he receives a call.
– Then I understand that something was wrong and at the same time someone calls to warn me about the men who were in here, he says.
When one robber pulls out a knife and approaches the till, Ali acts quickly. Behind the register he has a baseball bat which he quickly picks up, starts screaming and chases the robbers out of the store.
– While I want to defend myself, I was worried that they would come in behind the till. Then it’s done, he says.
Great fear
The incident really shook him – but this wasn’t the first time it had happened.
In five years, his store has been subjected to six attempted robberies. And in the last attempted robbery, he was beaten and his brother stabbed – after that, the fear is always there, he says.
– I am very worried. I know it can go badly as it has done before too, he says.
No other way out
Ali has previously spoken to the police about the problem. The question raised is whether he would give money to those who try to rob him – but that is not an option, he believes.
– I would feel really offended if I gave out money. I see no other way out than to just defend myself, he says.
According to Ali, the police cannot do anything at the moment and have announced that it is up to him whether he wants to defend himself or not. But Ali sees no other options than to stand up for himself and the store.
– I’m careful, but it doesn’t help. If I don’t have my eyes open, they come in – then it’s done.
