Frida Karlsson is one of the skiing world’s greats.
And even at a young age she knew it would be like that.
As a 13-year-old, a young Karlsson was asked what she thought of Petter Northug – and the answer really makes you smile.
Frida Karlsson was early on called Therese Johaug’s given heir. Karlsson was one of the few who could measure up to Johaug during the Norwegian’s last year, where she was otherwise, more often than not, completely superior. Karlsson already has enormous credentials from the World Cup and major championships, even though she is only 25 years old.
Huge breakthrough
Frida Karlsson is also a real favorite at home in the cabins, and she is often referred to as one of Sweden’s most popular and written about athletes. She had her big breakthrough before she was even 20 years old, when she made a sudden huge success during the WC in Seefeld.
The year before, Karlsson had a smash hit during the JVM in Goms, and in the same year she had her big breakthrough, she won double gold in the same championship. Given the enormous talent Karlsson was, it wasn’t particularly surprising that she could suddenly compete with some of the world’s absolute best. And Frida had an interest in skiing from a very young age.
The Tribute to Northug
When Frida Karlsson was 13 years old, she was at a training camp where Petter Northug was present. Today, Frida Karlsson herself is sponsored by Petter Northug’s sports glasses brand, but back then he was just a great role model for him. Fortunately, Frida Karlsson was caught on camera, when she was interviewed about what she really thought and thought about meeting the Norwegian, who was then at the peak of her career.
And it was clear that Frida Karlsson could not hide how strongly she really felt about the meeting.
– My biggest idol is Petter Northug, so I’m very, very excited, says Frida, who then also confirmed that she would get to meet Northug during the camp.
– I’m so excited! So it’s so much fun, she continues.
