Fast & Furious is an action series that has developed from fairly down-to-earth car races to big action stories. The series had some problems behind the scenes. The last part also had to contend with problems. But one actress continued filming anyway.
What is Fast & Furious 10 about? In the fifth part of the series, Dom Toretto’s crew fought against a Brazilian drug lord. However, this lord had a son who had been planning his revenge against Dom and his family for 12 years. In part 10, he carries it out.
The series no longer has much to do with the car races of the first parts. The series now seems more like an agent action film. Critics are no longer fans, but normal viewers still feel entertained. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a critics’ score of 56%, but a user score of 84%.
As is typical for the series, the film also had major problems in the background. But Charlize Theron couldn’t stop it.

Even without directing, Theron continues to work
What were the problems with part 10? Justin Lin is a veteran of the film series. He first directed the third part, Tokyo Drift. He then directed parts 4, 5, 6 and 9. Justin Lin was also set to return for Fast & Furious 10. During production of the film, however, Lin announced that he was leaving the project. As Deadline reported at the time, insiders said it was probably due to creative differences.
The project was said to have been without a director for a week, but one actress couldn’t stop it. Charlize Theron simply shot a fight scene without a director. Michelle Rodriguez said this in an interview with Vanity Fair.
We did it. We were there, we don’t need [Regisseur]let’s do this. Second unit manager, come on. We kept the train running until Louie came and took over. And she’s a total pro, sharp elbows, her work ethic is outstanding.

French director Loui Leterrier took over from Lin. Before that, he made the first Now You See Mee and the first two Transporter films. The film was released in 2023.
The series has always had problems. This is not the first incident that has happened behind the scenes at Fast & Furious. Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel also had a famous argument. Johnson joined the series in part 5.
In the course of part 8, however, he spoke out publicly against Diesel. Both of them incited each other against each other in interviews, their own series or on social media. In part 9, Johnson suddenly no longer appeared, but was given a spin-off with Jason Statham called Hobbs and Shaw. Ultimately, however, the two apparently reconciled, because Johnson returned in Fast & Furious 10. Many franchises have problems behind the scenes, including Blade: The disastrous production of Blade Trinity resulted in one of the worst Marvel films of all time.
