Henry Cavill’s Witcher replacement isn’t a stopgap – Liam Hemsworth was already a favorite for the Netflix role 5 years ago

Henry Cavills Witcher replacement isnt a stopgap Liam Hemsworth

The Witcher fans were presented with a fait accompli at the end of October: Henry Cavill is leaving Netflix’s The Witcher after season 3 as Geralt von Rivia and his replacement from season 4 is Liam Hemsworth.

Now it is clear: Neither Cavill’s exit nor Hemsworth’s entry are quick shots, but have been thinking about it for a long time.

Instead of Henry Cavill: Liam Hemsworth almost became Geralt of Rivia 5 years ago

Henry Cavill has been unhappy with the decisions made by The Witcher series executives since Season 2. Insiders and particularly well-informed series fans know that he is a huge fan of The Witcher books* and games. Among other things, it would have, in his opinion more to flow into the series.

As unnamed sources reveal to The Witcher news portal Redanian Intelligence, found already in summer the exit and entry talks take place. Season 3 wasn’t even finished yet.

Neither did an intensive casting process have to be initiated, nor is Liam Hemsworth’s takeover a panicked rush job. As Redanian Intelligence reports, Liam Hemsworth was already among the favorites at the original Geralt von Riva casting 2018 for the role.

From the start, the series makers could apparently imagine Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in their interpretation of The Witcher world. These are reassuring news for fans who fear Hemsworth as a pale penitent.

Liam Hemsworth’s career hasn’t really taken off since Independence Day 2: Resurgence. Despite starring in the blockbuster, his parts in The Hunger Games and The Expendables series, he’s still best known as Chris Hemsworth’s little brother.

There would certainly have been more pleasant career boosts than inheriting the popular Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. If the Season 4 The Witcher in December 2024 starts, he can prove how well platinum blonde hair and yellow eyes suit him.

Netflix will deliver the live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin this December, ahead of the 3rd and final season starring Henry Cavill, which is expected to arrive in summer 2023.
