Europe already has a captain for the Ryder Cup 2023. This Tuesday the European team of one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of golf has announced the Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson as captain for the next edition of the Ryder Cup, to be held at the Marco Simone golf course in Rome, Italy, from September 25 to October 1 next year.
At 45 years old, Stenson, winner of 17 titles as a professional and winner of the Open in 2016, has been present in five editions of the Ryder Cup, being champion in 2006, 2014 and 2018, and also forming part of the team in 2008 and 2016, being vice-captain in the latter. The Swedish golfer has a positive record in the tournament of 10 wins, 7 losses and two draws, and a positive record both in Four-ball (3-2-1), in Foursomes (4-3-1) and in singles (3-2-0).
The news has also been spread by Stenson himself through his social networks and one of the first to celebrate the appointment has been the Spanish golfer Jon Rahm, that has accompanied the tweet of the announcement with a flag of Europe. In this way, Europe takes the first step towards reconquering the Ryder Cup after the painful defeat suffered by the United States last year in Wisconsin by 19-9.
