Henrik Lundqvist has faced some of the best hockey players of all time.
But the person he hated to meet the most was a Swede.
– It always annoyed me, says Henke.
Henrik Lundqvist is one of ice hockey’s true greats. In Sweden, he is a celebrated hero for his great efforts in Tre Kronor, but he is if possible even more loved in the USA, and especially in the New York Rangers, where with his 15 seasons he is a real club icon.
Senseless career
Henrik Lundqvist had plans to play longer than he did, and then in the Washington Capitals, but then a brain stop put an end to his career. However, Henrik Lundqvist was able to sum up a truly magical career, where for over a decade he was one of the very best goalkeepers in the world, with a track record that few can match.
Last year, in the first year it was possible, Henrik Lundqvist was elected into hockey’s exclusive fine room, when he received a place in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Over the years, Lundqvist managed to face some of the absolute best players in history – Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Connor McDavid and Jaromir Jagr, to name a few – but when he himself has to choose who he hated to face the most, it is a Swede who receives the “prestigious” award.
The big tribute to “Zäta”
In connection with Henrik Lundqvist being elected to the HHOF, the audience on site had the honor of asking some questions to the icons on stage, and Lundqvist was then asked the question – and revealed that the answer is actually a Swede.
– Everyone I knew very well was the worst to face, Lundqvist began.
– I remember a match against Henrik Zetterberg, a close friend of mine. WE had had dinner the night before, and talked about all sorts of things. During the match the following day, he will of course score the first goal in the match, he continued.
Lundqvist goes on to tell how Zäta reacted after scoring on Pole Henke.
– The puck went through so many players, and I just look up and see how he’s laughing at me, like he’s thinking: “I got you!”. It always annoyed me, quite a lot, says Lundqvist.
