Henrik Lundqvist dons the goalkeeper gear again.
The Swedish NHL legend is ready for a return in North America.
– I never believed this, he says himself on X.
It was a very sad farewell to a fantastic career for Henrik Lundqvist. First came the news that he would be leaving the New York Rangers after 15 seasons in Manhattan.
Lundqvist’s resignation
But “Henke” didn’t even have time to make his debut for his new club Washington Capitals before the big nightmare news came. Ahead of the 2020/21 season, the doctors discovered a heart defect in the Swede, which meant that his hockey career was over for good.

In the winter of 2021, Lundqvist underwent surgery and has since remained in the NHL as a celebrated TV expert at TNT. The big tribute to the Swedish NHL icon, who has been elected to the prestigious Hockey Hall of Fame as the eighth Swede, is also waiting soon.
Henke’s comeback
In November, it’s time for the ceremony that means that Henrik Lundqvist’s name will be immortalized in hockey history. Now comes the next happy news for the 41-year-old – he will make a comeback on the ice again.

For the first time since he put the goalie’s helmet and glove on the famous shelf, it’s time to lace up the skates again. Lundqvist’s return to the ice will be in the annual tribute match where former great players meet in connection with the Hall of Fame ceremony.

“I never thought”
Of course, it will be emotional to step out on the ice again in front of full stands in Toronto.
“I never thought I’d get to put the guards back on, but it’s for a special purpose. Maybe it would be smart to start stretching a little,” writes “King Henrik” on X, formerly Twitter.
“The return of the king”, also writes the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Henke will also play together with the compatriot Peter Forsbergwho was elected to the Hall of Fame back in 2014. The other Swedes in the Hockey Hall of Fame are Börje Salming, Mats Sundin, Nicklas Lidström, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin and Daniel Alfredsson.
