Henrik Lundqvist in tears last night – the nice words that made the icon break down: “Unbelievable”

Henrik Lundqvist was elected to the hockey Hall of Fame.
Then he couldn’t hold back the tears.
– I am so happy that I get to share this moment with you, said Lundqvist in his speech.

He played for the New York Rangers for 15 years, and had his number 30 retired by the club. He won Olympic gold with Tre Kronor in 2006, and WC gold in 2017. He is one of the best hockey goaltenders of all time. The night to Tuesday Swedish time was chosen Henrik Lundqvist therefore into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Met Foppa

Lundqvist, together with his family and other hockey legends, has been in Toronto, where the Hall of Fame gala takes place, for a few days now. A “Legend’s Classic” has been played where the former goalie made his first comeback to the ice since he was forced to end his hockey career in 2021.

The match was also attended by icons such as Peter Forsberg, Pierre Turgeon, Adam Oates and Ryan Getzlaf. Lundqvist kept a clean sheet and saved all penalties, including Foppa’s. In connection with the match, the 41-year-old received the classic blazer from the Hall of Fame chairman Lanny McDonald.

Lundqvist’s tears

On the night of Tuesday Swedish time, it was time for the actual Hall of Fame ceremony. Then Henke Lundqvist gave a speech. When it came to thanking the family, the former hockey player could no longer hold back his tears.
– And to my family… Mother, father, Joel, my sister Gabriella. Thank you for always being there for me, Henrik said with tears in his throat, and continued:
– Mom, Dad, I think of all the hours you spent going to training and matches. It is incredible how much you have given up for us.

Lundqvist also thanked his wife Therese Andersson and their children.
– Finally, to my beautiful wife Therese, and my children Charlise and Juli. Thank you for all the support and love you give me every day. Therese, you were a rock during my career. I am so happy that I get to share this moment with you, Henke concluded.
