Henrik Lundqvist is one of Swedish hockey’s biggest profiles.
But now he changes sports and goes over to football instead.
Today it became official that “King Henrik” steps into Mjällby AIF and forces the club to change its name(!).
If you have been nicknamed “King Henrik” in New York, then you have really done something big and memorable. Which is exactly what Henrik Lundqvist accomplished with his hockey career and his many successful years with the New York Rangers.
Henke’s career
The goalie hero is one of our very greatest in Swedish hockey and he has won Olympic gold and WC gold with Tre Kronor, double SM gold with Frölunda and reached the Stanley Cup final in the world’s best hockey league. Lundqvist has had his shirt hoisted to the roof both by Frölunda and the New York Rangers, which is a rare gift.

Up until now, we have mostly associated his name with hockey, but now “Henke” is moving over to football. Today, April 1, it will be official that Lundqvist together with Head & Shoulders will step in as the new main sponsor for Mjällby AIF.
– Extremely gratifying! I have worked for a long time to get this sponsorship together. For me, it was especially important that we became the “main sponsor”, says Head & Shoulders brand ambassador Henrik Lundqvist in a press release.

Changing the name
The hockey icon and the shampoo company have long been linked with TV commercials on how to best fight dandruff, but now they’re taking it to a whole other level by buying into the classic football club. In connection with the sponsorship, it has also been agreed with Mjällby to change the name to “By AIF”.

On Monday, the club from Listerlandet kicks off the Allsvenskan season with a home opener against Varberg. Now we are very happy to enter the new year with Head & Shoulders as the new main sponsor.
– Our club was founded on April 1, 1939, so it feels extra good and natural to make this public today when we celebrate our 84th birthday. When Henke and Head & Shoulders pitched the sponsorship, we took out the pen and signed right away, because we didn’t want to miss this chance. With this collaboration we get completely new resources – even our opponents who come to Strandvallen will benefit from this as they no longer need to bring their own shampoo, says Daniel Hjalmarssonbusiness manager at By AIF.

In the press release it is also written that there were tough negotiations and By also managed to get more than just shampoo in the sponsorship agreement.
– I want to point out that the sponsorship does not only include unlimited shampoo. We also get conditioner, admits Hjalmarsson in the press release.
