Henrik Larsson was the big hero when he and Barcelona won the Champions League.
Afterwards, he completely abstained from alcohol during the celebration.
And the reason is absolutely wonderful.
Henrik Larsson was not too many years in Barcelona but he still has a special place in the hearts of all supporters. Larsson was highly praised by his teammates, and with his routine and goal-scoring ability, he quickly became a real favorite with everything and everyone in and around the club.
Was behind everything in the final
Particularly memorable is Larsson’s effort in the Champions League final in 2006. Barcelona faced Arsenal, and the English club looked set to win. Even though Barcelona had players like Ronaldinho and Deco in their absolute peak of their careers, it was a Swede who decided. Henrik Larsson started the match on the bench – but changed everything in just a few minutes.
Larsson first played until the equalizing goal, and just minutes later he accounted for another assist until 2-1, which was also the final score. For Henrik Larsson, it was emotional, not least when he lost a similar match with his beloved Celtic a few years earlier.
Therefore, he gave up alcohol
The Uefa Cup final in 2003 was played in Seville against Porto, but it ended in defeat – despite the Swede scoring two goals for his Celtic.
– Being in a big final and losing it, like we did with Celtic, was not a pleasant experience. I still don’t like to talk about that match, Henke said on The Lockdown Tactics Podcast a few years ago.
But the personal revenge came a few years later in the Champions League, the finest club team tournament of them all. Larsson was so happy afterwards that he even completely abstained from alcohol during the celebration.
– It was so good, because it’s the biggest thing you can win. I was so glad I didn’t even drink anything during the evening, because I really wanted to remember everything. I still remember pretty much everything, he says.
