Henrik Lundqvist and Joel Lundqvist have ended their careers.
Now it is clear that the twin brothers will work together.

Both are two of Swedish hockey’s most high-profile twin pairs. Henrik Lundqvist and Joel Lundqvist has had two fantastic playing careers that have now come to an end.
Henrik’s career
As early as 2021, goalie star “Henke” Lundqvist ended his career prematurely due to heart problems. He broke through with Frölunda but would then conquer New York and become one of the NHL team’s really great players in the 2000s.

It was 15 seasons and over 1,000 games in the NHL for “King Henrik”, who can boast the Vezina Trophy as well as both Olympic and World Cup gold with Three Crowns. Brother Joel also took the step over to the NHL but had a shorter career there and instead chose to return to Frölunda to become one of the club’s biggest icons ever.

Joel’s career
With the nickname “Captain of the Captains”, he has been Frölunda’s heart and soul for the last decade with his 20 seasons and over 1,000 games for the club. Joel won four SM gold and four CHL titles with Frölunda and three WC gold with Tre Kronor during his long and successful career.

But this spring he said a very emotional farewell to the club in his heart and his entire playing career. Now it is clear that both Henrik and Joel Lundqvist have received new assignments and will work together after their careers end.

The new assignment
On Monday morning, the news came that the twin brothers have been appointed as new ambassadors for the JVM in Gothenburg, which will be played this coming winter. A very honorable and important mission for Swedish hockey.
– The world’s best junior player is coming to Sweden. It creates an opportunity for young players to find new role models and create dreams about their own sports, says Joel Lundqvist in a press release.
The Lundqvist brothers come together with the goalie icon Kim Martin and the Frölunda player Hanna Olsson to be the four ambassadors for the next JVM with Sweden as the host country. The hockey profiles all have a strong connection to hockey in Gothenburg and will be the face of the event.
– Ice hockey has meant so much to me. A major world event like this can lead to more people becoming aware of our sport, both prospective active players and spectators. I’m happy to contribute to that, says Kim Martin, who is today the sports manager for Frölunda’s women’s team.
