The Finnish women’s national football team will leave for the Georgia match on Tuesday with only one goal in mind: the biggest possible win.
Helmarit desperately needs points in the World Cup qualifiers as it played a draw for Slovakia on Friday. Finland is now in third place in the zone with Ireland. However, second-place Ireland has played less of the match. Sweden leads the block by far, but Finland is fighting with Ireland for the second place qualifying for the World Cup qualifier.
There is no need to guess the winner against Georgia. The team in 125th place in the Fifa rankings is the throw-in of the block, having lost all five of their matches without scoring a goal. On its own, it has released 35 hits, or an average of seven goals in each game.
The teams’ encounter in the autumn in the Tbilisi potato field ended in a 3–0 victory for Finland, but the readings in Helsinki are probably uglier. Sweden topped Georgia on Thursday 15-0 and led the match 11-0 after the opening period.
The Swedes did not spare their words after the crushing victory.
– Such readings are not nice. We have huge differences in conditions. We Swedes can play our profession, and they might play football in addition to work, Kosovare Asllani commented to SVT. (switch to another service)
Head coach Anna Signeul recalled that similar readings have also been seen in matches in other blocks. England, for example, crushed Gentjana Rochin Northern Macedonia on Friday 10-0. Vivianne Miedema painted in turn six times when the Netherlands besieged Cyprus 12-0.
– Of course, this is not good for competition. Uefa is currently looking at what they can do about it. My thoughts are a bit divided: on the other hand, everyone has to play against the better in order for them to evolve. If some sort of ranking system is created, the gap between countries could widen further, Signeul said.
Signeul points out that many countries, such as Finland’s Friday resistance in Slovakia, have succeeded in raising their standards in recent years.
– I understand we are only talking about about six, seven countries, which are the lowest in the ranking. I don’t think this is such a big problem. But I understand that the best teams and the media want tougher matches. Teams want to sell stadiums.
– I understand very well that in order to develop, women’s football must also be sold as a product. If the results look like this, it won’t do the product any good.
Helmarit seeks a crush victory without their goal cannon
Helmarit can be applied for again without an all-time paint cannon Linda Sällström. The runner-up on the finish line of the European Championship qualifiers followed the Slovakia match from the bench and does not play against Georgia either. He suffers from a minor back injury.
– We think that in the big picture it is better for his club team, for us in the European Championships and for himself. There is no point in straining the hind legs too much. It has bothered him for a few weeks and hasn’t gotten any better. It is better to rest and let it heal. He is recovering now, Signeul commented.
In addition to Sällström, there was no exercise on Monday Anna Westerlund and Elli Pikkujämsä.
The Slovakia draw made it difficult for Helmare to qualify for the World Cup qualifiers.
Ireland, which is fighting for a second place in the block with Finland to qualify for further qualifiers, will face Sweden in a foreign field on Tuesday. In the autumn, Ireland and Finland will meet in Ireland. Finland will end the qualifiers for a home game against Sweden in September, while Ireland has matches against Georgia and Slovakia in addition to Sweden and Finland.
If the teams are tied after the qualifiers, the results of the teams’ encounters will be decisive first, followed by the difference in goals.
Olga Ahtisen according to the team knows what it might take to move on.
– It’s pretty clear to all of us. We also need to be able to score a lot of goals if we want to be able to go on with the goal difference.
Finland-Georgia on Tuesday 12.4. from 6:15 p.m. The match will be shown live on TV2, Arena and .
