The prize money for women’s European Championship football will more than double
The European football association Uefa confirmed on Monday that it will increase the prize money of the women’s EC tournament by 156 percent compared to the previous games.
In the 2022 European Championship in England, the total prize pool was 16 million euros, while it is 41 million euros in next summer’s European Championship in Switzerland.
All countries playing in the Games will receive 1.8 million euros. Uefa now requires for the first time that 30-40 percent of the amount is earmarked for the players participating in the tournament.
For every win in the EC group stage, the teams get an additional 100,000 euros, and for a draw, half of that amount.
If a country wins every match it plays and takes the European Championship, it would bring a total of 5.1 million euros in prize money.
Although the total prize money for women was increased significantly, it is only about 12 percent of the prize pool of the men’s European football championships. In this summer’s EC tournament, Uefa distributed a total of 331 million euros to the men.
