Hellbound is a Korean horror series directed by Yeon Sang-Ho (Last train to Busan, Peninsula). The series is adapted from the webtoon (webcast anime) of the same name, also directed by Yeon Sang-Ho. The first episode of the series was presented at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022, in the Prime Time category, a first for a series.

In recent years, Korea has become famous for the quality of its horror cinema, between gore and dreaminess, while the scenarios often question society in depth. Season 1 of Hellbound has been available on Netflix since November 19, 2021, before season 2 is released on the platform on October 25, 2024.

What is the plot of Hellbound ?

Anonymous people suddenly receive a visit from a terrifying ectoplasmic entity called Angel who has appeared to tell them the date of their death. Whether this is planned a few hours or a few months later, the dark omen seems to come true since at the expected time supernatural creatures appear to take the victims to hell. From then on, the panicked population plunged into chaos and became radicalized. What if these hellish manifestations were sent to earth to punish humanity for its sins? Two religious movements will then take advantage of these tragedies to sow terror and build crowd loyalty.
