The duo Heliövaara/Danilina fell in the quarterfinals after their American opponents took the victory with the score 6–7 (3–7), 6–3, 10–8.
Finland, who defended the mixed doubles championship in the US Open tennis tournament Harri Heliövaara and Kazakhstan Anna Danilina have fallen out of the continuation in the half-color round.
American couple Taylor Townsend and Donald Young took the victory in Monday’s meeting with the numbers 6–7 (3–7), 6–3, 10–8.
In the fateful quarter-final, the victory of the first round went instead to Heliövaara and Danilina, while Townsend and Young were able to turn from defeat to victory. The American duo had won their previous two matches in two sets.
Heliövaara and Danilina won the US Open mixed doubles championship last year.
Heliövaara unpacked his feelings at the end of the day in his own on his blog. Earlier that day, the Finn had lost his pair of Henry Patten with his men’s doubles match.
– It was a terrible day. Two matches and two really bad performances. The doubles game didn’t really get going at any point, and the mixed doubles game ended with my downright horrendous mistakes in the decisive tie break. I just have to try to forget this day as quickly as possible.
You look at the Davis Cup
In New York, Heliövaara also played with Britain’s Henry Patten, but the duo was eliminated in the third round of the men’s doubles.
Holland’s Wesley Koolhof and Croatia Nikola Mektic instead, on Monday in New York, they advanced 6–2, 6–2.
Heliövaara and Patten had won the previous grand slam tournament in London’s Wimbledon.
Heliövaara said that he was going to Finland that same evening.
Next, Heliövaara will be with the Finnish team in the group stage of the Davis Cup World Championships, when the group will face Great Britain, Argentina and Canada.
Finland starts its work on Wednesday next week against Great Britain.
