VEENENDAAL – GVVV has booked an important victory against IJsselmeervogels in the second division. The Veenendaal bottom line won 2-1 at home. That position had already been reached at halftime.
IJsselmeervogels started the game better and scored 0-1 with a header from defender Mitch Willems. Five minutes later it was already the same when Tom Oostinjen shot in a free kick of about 20 meters. “That ball can never go in,” said IJsselmeervogels trainer Gert Peter de Gunst afterwards. He did not blame goalkeeper Julian Prinsen, who replaced the injured Jaimy Schaap. “That kid is 19. He’s done well.”
Goldcrest Bitter
Just before half time, substitute Jordy Bitter fired, he replaced the injured Joshua Patrick, the 2-1 behind Vogels goalkeeper Julian Prinsen. Bitter, who will leave GVVV after this season, was therefore the goldcrest at Panhuis. “I was disappointed that I started on the bench again. But I was allowed to come in and played a good game. And it’s nice that I shoot that ball in.”

In the second half, IJsselmeervogels insisted, without really creating great opportunities. In the final phase, GVVV was close to 3-1 from the counter a few times, but Fabio Hendriksen and Jordy Bitter failed in the finish. “That has to be better”, said GVVV trainer Gery Vink. “You don’t get that many chances every game.”
Gery Vink joined GVVV last autumn, as the successor to the resigned Jochem Twisker. The agreement was then that Vink would stay until the summer, but that if he received a positive evaluation he would sign up until 2023. That seems to be happening this week. “The intention is there, but an agreement has yet to be reached,” said Vink.

Despite the win, GVVV remains last in the second division with 9 points from 15 matches, but the deficit on ASWH has been halved to three points. Just above that, IJsselmeervogels is number 16 in the ranking, with 13 points.
Taking care of IJsselmeer birds
And so there are concerns with trainer Gert Peter de Gunst van de Vogels, who saw his team lose for the fifth time in a row. “I can say that everything will be fine, but that is not based on anything,” said De Gunst. “They really do their best, but I’m worried yes.”

Routinier Danny van den Meiracker does the same. “There is no coordination in this team, and that breaks us down every week. We should not only worry about the points, but also about the displayed game and the mentality of this team.”
