10 Chambers’ new heist game Den of Wolves comes from the makers of GTFO and offers an innovative approach to the heist genre.
10 Chambers studio, which managed to make its name known to large audiences with their first game GTFO, has released their new games. Den of WolvesThey announced it at The Game Awards event that took place recently.

10 Chambers, a company founded in 2015 by Ulf Andersson and Simon Viklund, the producers of Payday 1 and 2, which have a very important place in Heist type games; They were trying a slightly different genre than robbery with GTFO, which was released in Early Access in 2019 and its full version in 2021. In fact, although there are some heist influences, GTFO, where you try to survive with your teammates and escape from the environment you are in, has managed to gain a unique player base.
Ulf Andersson and Simon Viklund, who had previously made a name for themselves with a brand new IP such as Payday, achieved this with the first game of their newly established studio, GTFO, and now they have rolled up their sleeves for a new IP.

Last November, the 10 Chambers team, which gathered game media from all over the world, including me, in Denmark, showed their new game Den of Wolves and played the last episode of GTFO. Now I would like to convey to you the notes I took from here.
The inventors of the heist genre return with Den of Wolves
First, I want to start with their new game Den of Wolves. I just mentioned the names of Payday 1 and 2 specifically because this game is one of the pioneers of the heist genre. It was a game that made significant contributions to this genre and improved the genre with the subsequent Payday 2. Although GTFO is a different genre, the producers’ passion for the heist genre has not passed, and the heist genre returns with Den of Wolves. In fact, it wouldn’t be wrong if I used a summary sentence like ‘A new heist game from the producers of Payday’.

Simon Viklund, co-founder of 10 Chambers and responsible for both the stories and compositions of the Payday series, who told us about Den of Wolves, mentioned their passion for the heist genre several times during the presentation. He even stated that his and Ulf Andersson’s favorite movie was the famous heist movie Heat. In a sense, GTFO was the studio’s rest period. While they were preparing GTFO, Ulf Andersson did not sit idle and thought about the innovations he could make in the heist genre, and their new game Den of Wolves emerged.
While 10 Chambers was a small and independent game developer founded in 2015, things are now starting to change. GTFO’s success, both critically and financially, attracted the attention of large companies. ‘When we were developing the game we were just working with a room full of people, when an idea came to our mind we would say it out loud and the whole production team would hear it,’ says Simon, talking about his memories during the development process. Although this small team of people had some disadvantages during the development process, Simon mentions that they used their advantages more; ‘Everyone on the team has a lot to contribute to the game. I think GTFO has developed such a close-knit community of players because the entire team has put so much effort and love into it.’

Things get a little different in Den of Wolves. Because China-based gaming giant Tencent has made a serious investment in 10 Chambers for Den of Wolves. With this investment, they enlarged the team by hiring a lot of people for the new game project. There is currently a completely new team working on Den of Wolves. Although the original GTFO team is still developing the game, they will now gradually transition to Den of Wolves.
While Simon was telling us about the game, he said that Den of Wolves will be an innovative robbery game, but he did not mention what kind of innovations they would make yet. Because the game is currently in the early development stage. In other words, he only tried to tell us the big picture because some of the details he would tell us might change. The game takes place in 2097 in a fictional city called Midway. Companies now rule the world, and the largest companies are gathered in Midway. So we can call Midway the capital of the world. We will also rob these companies in such an environment, but the exact topics and technical details are not clear.

Although a date has not been given yet for Den of Wolves, I think that the team that released GTFO in a short time with a small team will be able to produce Den of Wolves without waiting too long with much more manpower. I estimate that information will be available via Early Access at least within 1-2 years, and I should point out that this is a completely personal guess.
The last episode of GTFO has started
I had the chance to play the last episode of GTFO at the event I attended. To be honest, I’ve seen GTFO before but never played it. Since it was necessary to play with a team, as a single player game enthusiast, I couldn’t resist GTFO. Fortunately, I had the chance to experience GTFO in the playground set up at the event area, under the leadership of the game’s community manager. With the 8.0 update Breakdown, GTFO will no longer receive new content. This update will be the last content update of the game. Of course, we will continue to receive updates to fix any problems identified with the game and regular maintenance will be carried out on the servers. Only new content will not be created.

Explaining that they have provided all content updates in the game free of charge to date, the 10 Chambers team states that they promised this to the users at the very beginning. In their adventure as an independent company, they constantly offered innovations free of charge as a thank you to the players who supported them. This last major update of GTFO actually comes for free, although it has enough content to be sold for money.
I regret to say that this structure will change with Den of Wolves. Since both the growth of the team and the large production costs had to be supported by a more regular income stream, content could be sold for a fee in Den of Wolves. However, they state that they will set this up very well and will never switch to a Pay-to-Win structure.

GTFO’s last major update was released on December 8th. If you haven’t started yet, this might be a good time to start GTFO with your friends. We will have to wait a little longer for Den of Wolves. But since I went and saw it myself, I can easily say that as long as the 10 Chambers team maintains this synergy among themselves, they do not seem to play a bad game. That’s why you can follow the developments by adding Den of Wolves to your wish list now. There is also a separate website that you go to via a pop-up at the bottom of the site. Here, you can access more screenshots or information by cracking the passwords, but I have not yet managed to crack the password of one of them…
