It was last weekend that things got rowdy in connection with a permitted demonstration for Gaza in central Borås.
According to the police, a motorist drove into the demonstration train. An ambulance was called but no one was taken to hospital. The incident is being investigated as negligence in traffic, causing bodily harm and assault.
A new authorized demonstration is expected on Saturday. For security reasons, it has been moved to Stora torget. In addition, the police will be on site.
– In order to secure the concerns that exist, we want to be on site and together with the organizer ensure that it will be a good demonstration where you can use your democratic freedoms and rights, says Peter Sörstedt, police area manager for Älvsborg.
The versions differ about the incident in Borås
After last weekend’s demonstration, opinions differ on what actually happened. Demonstrators have stated that the motorist intentionally backed into two people and have reported the motorist for negligence in traffic and causing bodily harm.
The car driver, for his part, has reported the protesters for assault and vandalism. The motorist has stated, among other things, that he was hit in the face.
Investigating hate crime motives
A police investigation is ongoing and several interrogations have been held after the demonstration, but the police are also requesting video and image material from the incident.
According to Borås newspaper should the prosecutor look into whether there is possibly a hate crime motive after the motorist previously posted anti-Palestinian and racist posts on social media
